RVA Pieces Tournament Practice

3535 Ellwood Avenue, Richmond, VA 23221

RVA Pieces Tournament Practice is a weekly classical game designed to give players regular tournament practice. Games are USCF-rated, and we welcome players who are new to tournament chess. Whether you’re preparing for larger events or just looking for a slow game during the week, you’re welcome to join us. Players can join at any point during the month and are not expected to play every week.

  • Location: Publix in Carytown. We meet in the community room on the bottom floor.
  • Time: In-person registration is from 6:00–6:20 PM. Games start promptly at 6:30 PM.
  • Time control: 60 minutes per player, with a 10-second delay per move
  • Open to players of all ages and skill levels. If this is your first USCF event, we’d be happy to answer any questions you might have about tournament chess.
  • USCF membership is required. It’s easy to sign up online, and we’re happy to help if there are any questions.
  • Register in advance on Chess Nut, or sign up in-person at the event.
  • Entry fee: $5 per game or $15 for the full month
  • For more details, visit the event page on Chess Nut.
